Thai Association for Laboratory Animal Science (TALAS)

The Thai Association for Laboratory Animal Sciences (TALAS) was found in 2001. Today the association is composed of Individuals or Institutions concerned with care and use of laboratory animal, including biologists, veterinarians, physicians, researchers, administrators, technicians and other interested in the proper care and use of animals in research, teaching, and testing. Committees are formed to manage specific areas of concern, such as education, membership promotion, and meeting

TALAS is committed to advancing laboratory animal science and animal welfare through education, scientific exchange, professional development, and international collaboration. The association supports ethical and responsible animal research in accordance with national and international standards and the principles of the 3Rs — Replacement, Reduction, and Refinement.

Mission

To represent the Thai research animal community at national and international levels.

To promote the ethical and responsible use of research animals.

To sustain essential knowledge and continuing education regarding contemporary laboratory animal sciences.

To lead collaborative networking for the Thai research community.

History

The Thai Association for Laboratory Animal Science (TALAS) was established in 2001 to promote the advancement of laboratory animal science and the humane care and use of laboratory animals in Thailand. The association was founded by professionals and institutions involved in biomedical research, veterinary medicine, animal care, and scientific education who recognized the growing importance of ethical, high-quality standards for animal research in Thailand.
