About TALAS 2026

Thai Association For Laboratory Animal Science (TALAS)

The Thai Association for Laboratory Animal Science (TALAS) was established in 2001 to promote the proper care and use of laboratory animals in research, teaching, and testing. TALAS serves as a professional organization for individuals and institutions involved in laboratory animal science, including veterinarians, scientists, researchers, physicians, technicians, educators, administrators, and animal care personnel.

TALAS is committed to advancing laboratory animal science and animal welfare through education, scientific exchange, professional development, and international collaboration. The association supports ethical and responsible animal research in accordance with national and international standards and the principles of the 3Rs — Replacement, Reduction, and Refinement.

  • 1.To represent the Thai research animal community at national and international levels.
  • 2.To promote the ethical and responsible use of research animals.
  • 3.To sustain essential knowledge and continuing education regarding contemporary laboratory animal sciences.
  • 4.To lead collaborative networking for the Thai research community.

  • 1.To promote and encourage the highest standards of animal care and use in research, as well as the quality of research.
  • 2.To promote and develop laboratory animal sciences and related academic fields.
  • 3.To advance knowledge, skills, and status of those who care for and use laboratory animals.
  • 4.To promote and encourage the highest level of ethics within the profession of laboratory animal science.
  • 5.To share with other professionals the difficulties inherent in the use of laboratory animals.

History

The Thai Association for Laboratory Animal Science (TALAS) was established in 2001 to promote the advancement of laboratory animal science and the humane care and use of laboratory animals in Thailand. The association was founded by professionals and institutions involved in biomedical research, veterinary medicine, animal care, and scientific education who recognized the growing importance of ethical, high-quality standards for animal research in Thailand.
